Hospital Stay #3

Seeing that we haven't posted anything since February would just have to mean that "no news is good news", right? Well that was pretty accurate but now we have news, so we thought we would do a post. A couple weeks ago Wayne and I went down to Moab to play in a Coed volleyball tournament (which we won!) and we left Kaelyn overnight with Wayne's mom. It was the first time we had left her (other than in the hospital of course). Well wouldn't you know that little stinker took Grandma on a wild goose chase to the insta-care and then the ER at Primary Children's. When she woke up Saturday morning she had a fever and just wasn't acting like herself. When they got to the insta-care her oxygen sats were in the 70%, so they sent them to the ER at the children's hospital. After 2 hours and Wayne talking to the doctor they were able to come home on a liter of oxygen.

The next couple of days she seemed to be getting back to herself and was only needing about 1/4 liter of oxygen. Then the following Saturday she started getting worse and more fevers and requiring more oxygen. So Tuesday we took her back to her doctor and after looking over her he sent us back up to Primary's to most likely be admitted for respiratory distress. So after 8 HOURS!!! in the ER she was finally admitted to the ICU at 1:00 in the morning. She was needing about 5.5 liters of high flow oxygen and they started an antibiotic because of a shady lung x-ray that might have been pneumonia.

6 days later she is still in the hospital on the infant unit. They decided that she did not have pneumonia, just para-flu and friend of old RSV. Just some nasty virus that takes its toll on unsuspecting little children like Kaelyn with underlying health issues. She seems to be getting a little better each day, the main thing we are here for is the high-flow oxygen. She is down to 2.5 liters, so we are getting closer to bringing her home. Once she can get down below a liter on a regular oxygen cannula we can take her home. When we got here today she was very smiley and happy, and reminded me of my cute little happy girl! She showered us in kisses, which she can be pretty hard to get some days :) So good to see. Right now she is jumping around on her daddy's lap with a big smile. Even though being in the hospital is not so fun, we are pretty blessed that this is our first time back since her heart surgery.

Now for some pictures from the hospital and fun stuff we were doing before she got sick.

Chugging down on a bottle this afternoon with dad.

Just settling into her new digs on the infant unit. Much more cozy than the ICU.

Laying around in the tiny ER room.

This was on St.Patricks day, we were trying a new hair style...Kaelyn wasn't impressed.

Kaelyn's first ride on Grandma's LaJean's rocking horse. She was loving it!

She was such a well seasoned rider, she could ride and pull
her "fish face" at the same time.

Why do our kido's always get sick when we leave them? Hopefully you bust out of there soon. I bet she'll be on O's at home for a while though! Oh well, you've been there before, right?
